Houston College of Optometry. His academic excellence continued in professional school. In 1987, he received the TOA Proctor Memorial Award of Excellence and in 1989 the Bausch and Lomb Practice Initiation Award. In 1988, he served an externship at the Indian Health Service Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There he developed a love for the Southwest and enjoys returning for visits with his family. In 1989, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Degree in Therapeutic Optometry, a designation that allows him to treat most eye disease as well as participate in pre and post op eye care, including Lasik. Fluent in Spanish, he participated as a lecturer at various Primary Eye Care Seminars in Mexico, Panama, and Guatemala from 1989-1993. He has served as a Rotarian since 1989 and received his Paul Harris Fellow in 2005 The numerous charities he supports include the Rotary Foundation, The World Wildlife Fund, The NAACP, The Indian Education Foundation as well as Hebrew University in Israel. Dr. Mendlovitz strives to provide excellent personalized care. He has twice been recognized by Cole Vision as having the highest patient satisfaction rating. When not examining eyes, Dr. Mendlovitz enjoys reading, studying the Kabbalah, and Tae Kwon Do. He has also written numerous screenplays as well as poems. He and Elizabeth have two sons Aaron and Bryan who both enjoy piano. Aaron also studies Tae Kwon Do and currently holds a brown belt.
